Conservation Security Program Catalyst for Midwest Farm Conservation, House Ag. Committee to hold Farm Bill Hearing on Conservation Title
WHAT: A new report finds the Conservation Security Program (CSP) is a catalyst for new conservation practices by Midwest farmers. The Conservation Security Program Drives Resource Management: An Assessment of CSP Implementation in 5 Midwestern States offers the first comprehensive view of how the Conservation Security Program is working on the ground in the Midwest.
The Conservation Security Program is up for re-authorization by Congress in the 2007 farm bill. Nationwide, nearly 20,000 farms are enrolled in this working lands program, totaling 16 million acres.
The House Agriculture Committee's hearing on the Farm Bill Conservation Title will be in the afternoon of April 19th where the Conservation Security Program will be among the programs addressed. Loni Kemp, Senior Policy Analyst with the Minnesota Project, will address the report's findings at the hearing.
